Krullapalooza V takes over Largo at the Coronet on Saturday, March 31 2017 at 8 pm. Hosted every year by renowned comedienne Tig Notaro, the event features some of the best known comedians working today. The theme for this year’s show is Shattering The Silence, something the late, great Suzanne Krull had and supported in spades — and which PAVE has championed for over a decade.

Hope to see you March 31 at:

Krullapalooza is an annual comedy fundraising event dedicated to the memory of Suzanne Krull Spruyt, who left us in the summer of 2013 after a life-long battle with a rare connective tissue disorder. Against odds that should have crushed her spirit, Suzanne became a respected actress, writer and comedienne. Suzanne had a huge place in her heart for the underdog. If you were vulnerable, misunderstood, discriminated against or marginalized, she had your back. In honor of who she was and what she stood for, those who tried to love Suzanne as much as she loved us present Krullapalooza V, as a benefit for PAVE.

To learn more about hilarious, badass, beloved Suzanne Krull, watch this.

 From Peter Spruyt:

Krullapalooza V is rapidly approaching and more effort than ever has gone into picking the right cause and group to partner with.

Ultimately the decision came down to timing.

We have spent our whole lives in a world where sexual assault and harassment have been the norm, where predators have thrived with impunity, where victims have feared to come forward because they knew they would be blamed, shamed, bullied, disbelieved and ostracized if they spoke up and where people who should have been allies have been silent enablers.

The paradigm finally seems to be shifting.

The #metoo movement and the willingness of brave women and men to come forward and name their abusers, no matter how powerful and influential they may be, has shown the world that we are ready to stand up and say “enough!” – and that we demand that predators be held accountable.

26 years ago, Anita Hill raised our collective consciousness about this issue, but the powers that be and society at large weren’t ready or willing to acknowledge her.

What about this time? Will this be a watershed moment or will momentum fade with passing news cycles?

Will we make lasting changes or will this be a blip on the radar?

Will we teach our youth what consent means, and what a healthy relationship looks like so we breed a generation who are less likely to be abused or become abusers?

The answers to those questions depend on you and me.

So, in the interest of doing our small part to keep the momentum going, Krullapalooza is partnering with a group that has been at the forefront of this struggle for sixteen years.

Angela Rose was a teenager in Illinois when she was abducted and sexually assaulted. She funneled her anger into activism by spearheading community action to change laws in Illinois, and subsequently createdPAVE (Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment) while she was a student at University of Wisconsin.

Angela is a remarkable woman.

Under her guidance, PAVE has grown into a national nonprofit that has lead the movement to shatter the silence of sexual violence and create cultural change.

Among other things, PAVE has worked to both prevent sexual assault and to heal survivors through social advocacy, education and survivor support.

PAVE has taught over 50,000 students what the meaning of consent is, how to prevent assault, and what to do when it happens.

PAVE has trained over 2,500 professionals how to be better advocates and allies for victims.

They have used artists including actors, musicians and spoken word poets to amplify the message.

Angela and her team have built PAVE into over 50 chapters and affiliates across the country.

Moreover, PAVE Hollywood is an emerging voice working to reform the entertainment industry.

PAVE’s has been featured on CNN, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Oprah Winfrey Network and a special edition of 48 Hours on CBS.

But the scope of PAVE’s influence is dependent on their resources.

Together, we are going to increase their resources, and keep the momentum going.
