Michelle Valorae is a TV contributing host, women’s empowerment speaker & the author of Girl Thriving: A 31-Day Guide to Helping You Rise Above Your Past and Your Future. Michelle’s mission is to empower survivors of abuse to heal so that they can react to their pain in healthy ways instead of self destructive patterns like many survivors do. You don't have to merely survive, you can thrive but it is a choice that we have to choose for ourselves. She is a mentor for GEM MARYLAND: a mentoring program for high school girls in underserved areas of Baltimore.

Michelle served on the Human Trafficking Task Force for United Way as well as served with Traffic 911 identifying victims of human trafficking in prisons and detention centers: connecting them to resources and support. Michelle has dedicated the last ten years to educating others about the effects of abuse as well as helping survivors be empowered to heal, restore and thrive.

She is a survivor of childhood abuse. She saw how speaking out about the abuse tore her family apart in which later her mom and sisters thanked her for bringing freedom to them through her courage of speaking up and seeking justice. She went off to college and her dreams were shattered when she was sexually assaulted and raped. Through her journey of having to re-root her dreams, heal and re-define her future, she started sharing her story in hopes of helping others. She realized there is a lack of understanding when it comes to trauma causing more pain for survivors seeking help and healing. She hopes to bridge the gap between education and understanding so that survivors can have a safer place in this world to heal and thrive.

She encourages survivors to not be afraid of their brokenness but rather shift their perspective on it. She uses the idea of an old Japanese art, Kintsugi art, a technique that takes broken pottery and mends it back together with liquid gold, to remind survivors that they can be mended back together as well. Truth is, with the right tools and support around you, you are a masterpiece being rebuilt.

She is the mother of a beautiful daughter named Destiny who inspired her non-profit start up @houseofdestinyrestorationhome. As a survivor of abuse, she understands the effects of pain way too well. So much so that she believed at one point that she would never be able to live a joyful and thriving life. Through seeking healing, she discovered that she was operating out of shame which led her to react out of pain instead of her truth. With the right steps, we can take control of what our life looks like moving forward. Michelle hopes to empower other women with her message of re-rooting your dreams after trauma, and the power that is found in the breaking.
